Kalidasa in my heart

Kalidasa in my heart.

Oh, dear Poet, Great
who you became Kālidāsa
why do you over cast my muse
like a nimbus cloud of pain
coming from your ancient Ujjain
of fifth century A.D to precipitate?

Why do I feel, not of yaksha
exciled in Vindhya Mountains
who conveyed his sorrow to his yakshini
waiting for his return to home
in distant Alka on Mount Kailash
through your poem Meghadūta-
the cloud messenger
but your spirit telling me
the story of your unspoken grief?

Why do I feel like, you too
a yaksha
speaking to my heart
from the prison luxurious
of a King’s palace
where Vidyottama,the Princess
now your wife
condemning you
for your ignorance and coarseness
and blaming her ill fate
for marrying you by mistake?

Oh, Great poet,
do you also tell me that
great sorrows of Shakuntala
in your Abhijñānaśākuntalam
is all but your sorrows in disguise
of being humiliated
and abandoned
by your most beloved
Vidyottama,the princes
in your great poetry
using metaphores classical
of puranic stories and verses?

Oh, dear poet, Great
did you tell about secret passion
of the King Agnimitra
for Mālavikā, the servant exiled
in Mālavikāgnimitram
or of your passion for someone
a secret, you’ve never disclosed?

Why do I feel like you saying to me
the secret alchemy of a poet-
that pain of disapproval
and humiliation,
angst and anguish
are all very essential ingredients
for writing the finest poetry?

Apparently there’s no court
no plaintiff, no accused
no complaint, no case
no arrest, no bail
no pleader, no Judge
but the proceeding goes on.

A poet, egoistic
(read culprit)
skillfully using his words
ulterior (read weapons)
against his wife
is self convicted.
